3 tips to avoid emotional eating

What is emotional eating?

Emotional eating is the overconsumption of food - usually processed/unhealthier options - as a response to stress or unpleasant emotional states. Here are three tips to challenge it.

1. Avoid keeping ‘treats’ at home

Try to limit the storage of foods that are high in sugar and saturated fats at home and replace them with fruits and healthier alternatives.

2. Acknowledge and express your feelings

When we allow ourselves to feel and process our emotions understanding their source, we allow space for different perspectives and emotions to arise.

3. Avoid doing your groceries when hungry, stressed or overwhelmed

Choose alternative times to go for your groceries shopping to lessen the likelihood of making unhealthier or unbalanced food and volume choices.

Emotional eating can be a troublesome hurdle to pass by for those seeking to create or sustain a healthy and balanced diet as well as for people working on their fat loss journey.

I hope that these three tips, while not an extensive list, can either help you directly or prompt some thinking into different strategies that might help you in keeping your nutrition as a support to your health and fitness needs and goals as opposed to a detriment.

Be twofold. Peace, James.
